Floating Bridge To Be Taken Out Of Service For Annual Inspection

If you rely on the floating bridge, take note. This in from the council in their own words. Ed

Cowes Floating Bridge Replaced By Passenger LaunchThe Cowes Floating Bridge will be taken out of service from Monday 19 March for an annual inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

This will involve the bridge being towed to Southampton where its hull will be checked in a dry dock.

A passenger launch will be in place while the bridge is out of service, and motorists will be diverted via Newport.

Not able to confirm return date
Any repairs needed will be undertaken whilst the vessel is in the dry dock after which it will return to service as soon as the weather conditions allow a smooth Solent crossing.

Because of this it is not possible to confirm a set date for when the bridge will be back in service although this is anticipated before the end of the month.

The council apologises in advance for any problems caused.
