The Environment Agency have issued an update to their Flood Alert for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.
The Flood Alert reads:
“Be prepared.
“The water level in the Eastern Yar is slowly rising in response to the overnight rain. In the last 16 hours almost half a month’s rain (34mm) was recorded at Wroxall.
“From 13:00 today (Monday 30/09/24) very minor impact flooding could affect fields and tracks around Alverstone.
“At Sandown, a small amount of flood water could affect Golf Links and Moreton Common Road, although impacts at Sandown are not expected until much later this evening.
“Property flooding is not expected. Rain clears eastwards by lunchtime and a dry afternoon follows.
“Tomorrow (Tuesday 01/10/24) only a small amount of rain (10mm) is forecast. The rest of the week should remain relatively dry.
“At Alverstone the river should peak around 19:00 this evening, at Sandown, it is unlikely to peak until 08:00 tomorrow morning.
“We’ve checked Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor the forecast and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.
“Please avoid walking or driving through flood water.”
