A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Isle of Wight coast.
The alert, which was issued at 2.41pm Tuesday 15th April 2025, reads:
“Wednesday’s early morning tide at 01:30 on 16/04/2025 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 5 winds and large waves.
“The weather increases tide table values by 0.59 m. The total forecast tide is 4.70 metres Chart Datum (2.11 mAOD) at Cowes. For 1 hour either side of high water, very minor impact flooding will affect some sea front roads, esplanades and car parks across the Island.
“Water will be high up slipways in Cowes, affecting Medina Road and the floating bridge.”
It goes on to add,
“In East Cowes, sea water forced up through drains may cause very minor impacts to the road at Albany Road. Wednesday afternoon’s tide at 13:45 16/04/2025 is forecast to be 37 cm lower (1.74 mAOD). No further flood impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast.
“If you have it, we recommend that flood protection is installed at Medina Road 1 hour before high tide, water may only be 10cm below front door steps.”
