Speedway:

Four speedway stars set out on under 21 championship glory trail

Thanks to Bryn for this Speedway update from the Wightlink Islanders. Ed

Four members of the 2013 Wightlink Islanders National League side head to Devon this weekend as they set out on the path that could ultimately see one of then crowned as this year’s British Under 21 Champion.

Each of young quartet, namely Adam Ellis, Brandon Freemantle, Darryl Ritchings, and Danny Stoneman, will have their sights fixed firmly on winning the 16 rider 20 heat semi-final of the competition being staged on Saturday evening, starting at 7pm, at Premier League Plymouth’s St. Boniface Arena.

Top seven scorers
Failing actually winning Saturday’s meeting, each of our four youngsters will head back home from Devon more than content provided that they have finished amongst the top seven scorers on the night, for by doing so they will have clinched a place in this year’s British Under 21 Final that’s scheduled to take place at the Ladbroke Stadium, Wolverhampton on Tuesday April 23rd to which nine riders, including our own Tom Perry, have been seeded straight through.

“It’ll be a tall order for all four of our riders to finish in the top seven scorers on Saturday,” commented Wightlink Islanders co-promoter Chris Hunt, “but marvellous if they did do just that!

“Rest assured all of them will be ‘going for it’ as they say and all members of the management of the club here on the Isle of Wight wish them well, as I’m sure all our supporters do.”

Lineup for Saturday’s big meeting
(In riding order): Brendan Johnson (Coventry), Jake Knight (Sheffield/King’s Lynn), Nathan Greaves (Dudley), Darryl Ritchings (IOW), Brandon Freemantle (IOW),Richard Andrews (Unattached), Liam Carr (Unattached), Danny Stoneman (IOW), Adam Ellis (IOW), Tyler Govier (Buxton), Oliver Greenwood (Coventry), Dan Greenwood (Dudley), Matt Williamson (Buxton), Shane Hazelden (King’s Lynn), Josh Bates (Scunthorpe/Mildenhall), Max Clegg (Dudley). If you can’t get to Plymouth
Those Wightlink Islanders’ fans who can’t head down to Plymouth to be at Saturday’s meeting can meet all seven members of this year’s team at a ‘Meet the Team’ social event taking place in the Premier Lounge at Smallbrook on Tuesday March 19th that’s scheduled to get underway at 7pm which, everybody is reminded, will be the new starting time of home meetings this season.

Attendees at the event will be able to chat to all team members face to face on the night but for those who are too shy to do so, our official website ( see above for address) has gradually been obtaining answers to the questions we put to them so why not read what they’ve had to say?
