Pile of booksOn the evening of the 5th March the Island will be teeming with locals giving away free books.

Dozens of Islanders have been chosen to each receive 50 copies of their selected book to give away to whoever they choose as part of World Book Night.

Entrants have been asked to choose from a diverse selection of best-selling titles such as Agent Zig Zag, The Life of Pi and Seamus Heaney’s Selected Poems.

World Book Night
Taking place simultaneously across the country and on television, World Book Night is a celebration of books that aims to get the nation reading.

Waterstone’s in Newport will be hosting their own World Book Night party where givers are invited along to meet each other, give away their books and celebrate together. The public are also invited to join in the celebrations and maybe pick up a free book or two, and as part of the spirit of sharing, to bring along a book they would like to swap with other attendees.

Quizzes, raffles and competitions
As well as quizzes, raffles and competitions, book lovers will also be given the opportunity to share their enthusiasm by writing reviews to be used in-store to recommend books to customers.

The party will take place in Waterstones between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm on Saturday 5th March. Store manager Paul Armfield says ‘The best part of this job is talking to the customers about books, and it gives me great pleasure to hear customers recommending books to other customers, I hope that this party will be a chance for people of all ages to do just that and share their passion for reading.’
