Police are renewing an appeal for information after a series of crimes against cars and vehicles parked in the Cowes area of the Isle of Wight.

The Cowes Safer Neighbourhoods team is continuing to investigate reports of criminal damage and thefts affecting motor vehicles during the first three months of this year.

Increase in vehicle crime
Investigating officer PC Minka Armitage of the Cowes Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “There has been a noticeable increase of vehicle crime in the town since the start of the year.

It’s become a policing priority for officers who have responded swiftly to information from the public and arrested suspects. Thank you to everyone who has contacted police already.

“We’ve recovered a significant amount of property, which we believe was stolen from cars parked in Cowes. This property includes an extremely wide range of personal and commercial items.

Have you been a victim?
“In addition to ongoing enquiries in the local community, we’re appealing through the media for anyone who believes they have been a victim of vehicle crime in Cowes recently to contact the police. I’d like to trace the rightful owners of this property as a matter of urgency.

“Police would also like to take this opportunity to remind motorists about crime prevention advice. Please ensure you lock your vehicle while unattended, and try not to leave high value items in your vehicles or other attractive portable items on display.”
