This Vectis Decorative Fine Art Society (DFAS) is offering a free taster lecture is to encourage new people to experience our social and informative evenings with Vectis DFAS at the Quay.
From Wild Beasts to Pickled Sharks – 100 years of Modern Art with scepticism and a lot of humour
This lecture aims to consider some of the avant garde art movements that were formed in the 100 years between 1900-2000 – principally in Paris, London and New York and asks why these works were produced when they were – and what was happening in the life of the artist at the time.
It is a lecture that should enable one to put ‘isms’ into boxes – cubism, surrealism, conceptualism, minimalism etc and to enjoy a light hearted stroll through some of the most well known Modern works of our century.
