The Chairman of the council has this afternoon (Wednesday) agreed that the cancelled Isle of Wight full council meeting, due to take place on 21st September, will be reinstated.
Request for Extraordinary Full Council
Following the cancellation, Labour councillor for Newport East, Geoff Lumley had submitted a formal request to the Council Chairman for an Extraordinary Full Council to be held to deal with the items that would have been on the agenda – including his Women’s Pensions motion – and any other new Motions submitted by noon next Monday.
His request was signed by the required councillors, including three Executive Members.
An email has been sent officers to all councillors stating,
“Rather than try and identify a separate date for this extraordinary meeting the Chairman has agreed that the meeting on the 21st be reinstated and an agenda will be sent out later today.”
Cllr Lumley says,
“There will now be no excuse for Cllr Whitehouse or his Tory colleagues not to table lots of Motions on how they would deal with budget matters etc.
“Or submit the fabled ‘No Confidence’ motion.”
‘Fiddling’ allegations
Earlier today Conservative group leader, Cllr Dave Stewart, accused the Leader of the council, Jonathan Bacon, of ‘playing the fiddle while Rome burns’.
Cllr Bacon explained he had no control over whether the Chairman decides to cancel meetings and accused Cllr Stewart of being the one doing the ‘fiddling’.
Update: 13.40
Agenda for the meeting has now been published and does not include the vote of no confidence motion.
