A sixth-form student from Medina High School has set herself the challenge of running round the Isle of Wight this weekend in aid of a project at Haylands Farm.
Gemma Bignell will start running early on Saturday morning from Ryde, and aims to run all the way to Brighstone round the coastal path on Saturday 27th March, completing her circuit of the Island on Sunday 28th.
Gemma was featured in the CP recently as she received a Young Achiever’s award from the High Sherriff in recognition of her determination, generosity and her many volunteering activities.
Gemma has been a regular volunteer at Haylands Farm, which provides training, education and work experience for people with learning difficulties, and has designed a sensory garden to be made there.
Cutbacks in funding opportunities have made it necessary for Gemma to do all she can to raise the funds herself to make this garden happen. She has already had pledges totalling more than £300, but more is still needed. Anyone who would like to make a donation, however big or small, should contact Haylands Farm, Salters Road, Ryde, PO33 3HU tel: 566038.
