Cuts by the new Government will lead to the halting of some Isle of Wight traffic, safety and accessibility schemes.
75% of the Government’s annual grant funding has been chopped, so it’s now up to Cllr Edward Giles, IW Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport to make the decisions which will come to an end.
He is currently working with council officers to come to his conclusion as to what will go.
The Daily Echo is reporting that the cuts amount to £470,000 from the Isle of Wight. The council has confirmed this amount to VentnorBlog.
VentnorBlog asked the council for some details, Peter Hayward, IW Council head of highways and transportation, said: “The Government has made a cut of 75% of its annual grant funding for local improvements to accessibility and traffic and safety schemes.
“The decision on which schemes will have to be halted will be taken by the cabinet member for environment and transport in consultation with officers. Work is currently being undertaken to determine exactly which schemes will be affected.”
