New funding aimed at giving children and young people with disabilities and additional needs more opportunities to take part in activities across the Isle of Wight is now available.
Grants of up to £10,000 are being offered to local organisations through the Isle of Wight Council’s Short Breaks programme, helping providers deliver inclusive clubs, groups and activities for young people aged up to 19.
What the funding is for
The funding is designed to support organisations that can provide fun, engaging and accessible opportunities for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The aim of Short Breaks is to provide a break for parents/carers while their child takes part in a safe, fun and enjoyable activity.
Who can apply
Voluntary and community organisations, charities, community interest companies (CICs), businesses and some school providers are eligible to apply for funding.
School-based projects must be inclusive and open to all children and young people with disabilities and additional needs on the Island.
Activities the council hopes to see
The council hopes the grants will encourage a wide range of activities, from sports clubs and youth groups to arts projects, community activities and childcare provision, helping more young people take part in opportunities that build confidence, independence and wellbeing.
