Greater In Tune: Large-scale portrait photography show closes this weekend

A striking exhibition of contemporary portrait photography by Alexis Chabala is currently on display at Quay Arts in Newport.

Exploring identity through portraiture
Entitled Greater In Tune: IOW, the exhibition showcases large-scale portraits by Zambian-born, London-based photographer and filmmaker Alexis Chabala.

His work draws from the mix of cultures that shaped his upbringing, alongside lifelong interests in comics, music, painting and photography.

Portraiture has remained at the heart of his artistic practice throughout his career.

Well-known names and a distinctive style
The exhibition hosts portraits of a wide selection of artists, including Sister Sledge, Little Simz, Erykah Badu and many more.

Many of the portraits featured were first captured during a collaboration with producer Lorayne Crawford, which ran from 2014 to 2021.

Chabala’s style is known for being raw and distinctive, with an approach that connects commercial photography with fine art.

Final days to visit
The exhibition runs until Saturday 2nd August in the West Gallery at Quay Arts, Newport.

The gallery is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
