Thanks to Tom for Ryde Harriers for this week’s report. Ed
This new event had races for all age categories from Under 13 up to veterans with three athletes making up a team and each team member running two laps of 3km. The two women’s teams for Ryde placed in second and seventh whilst the men’s team were seventh.
Brighton Marathon
Meanwhile the Spring marathon season opened up with the first big city race being Brighton Marathon and a large contingent of Island runners made the journey up the coast for 26.2 miles of pounding pain and elation.
Ryde Harriers Brian Warren and Ana Roman were part of the group and both finished with pleasing times. Brian lined up for his debut marathon only a couple of years after starting running using the NHS Coach to 5k route and crossed the line in 4:21.
Ana has a few more marathons under her belt and finished in 5:10:16 despite a less than ideal training program. Well done to all who completed the distance, London awaits in less than two weeks with some rather motivated Islanders doing the Brighton-London double-up.
Easter Egg Run
The annual Easter Egg Run, held on the first Tuesday after Easter weekend by Ryde Harriers, had a field of thirty seven nominating times for a 5 mile run via Seaview.
Nearest to his stated time and gaining the first pick of the chocolate goodies was Graham Maitland who was just one second inside his time of 37:10. Second was Charlotte Pacy, twenty one seconds inside her time of 40:30 whilst Samantha Fancourt came third twenty three seconds inside her time of 40:10.
