Haydn Sewell:

Haydn Sewell wins Junior Trophy at 2013 Volvo Gill Optimist Inland Championships

Many thanks to Tim for this update. Ed

Isle of Wight Sailor, Haydn Sewell, notched up another sailing success last weekend winning the Davey Trophy as the top junior boy in the main fleet at the 2013 Volvo Gill Optimist Inland Championships.

Highest ranked Junior
The two day event was held at Grafham Water and attracted a fleet of over 200 young sailors from around the UK aged 9 – 15. Over the five race series Haydn only had one result outside of the top ten with a 9th, 8th, 6th and 5th giving him a total points tally of 28.

This meant that overall the 10 year old Royal Victoria Yacht Club sailor finished the Championships in 7th place making him the highest ranked Junior (under 13) sailor.

Haydn: “I was so excited”
Commenting on his achievement Haydn said,

“It was a great weekend’s sailing, I love the big fleets where we there are so many other boats to race against. Going into the last race I knew I had a chance to get into the top ten if I got a good another good result.

“Finishing in seventh placing was awesome, I was so excited when I realised how well I had done and was very happy to win the trophy as the top junior.”

Haydn’s sailing adventures continue next week when he flies out to Turkey as part of the 8 person British Optimist Development Team that is competing in the Bodrum International Regatta.

Yet another promise of a new home for the County Records office. None of the previous promises came to anything and successive council administrations should be ashamed of themselves for continually failing to re-house what is a valuable resource of irreplaceable analogue material. Er, new home for Newport library? Does it need one then? Whilst the press office is in top form with another dynamic press release,… Read more »

Where are all the customers going to come from?? Other existing businesses by any chance? I see they have forgotten to mention their clincher (It will create 200 permanent jobs!!). But they never say over and above current level. Can some one please explain tome what “Leveling up” means? It looks like a contradiction in terms to me. When do we know we have reached the desired… Read more »

A cultural centre in this location would be an ideal development of Newport harbour expanding on what the Quay Art Centre presents the community and visitors to the Island while incorporating the admiral activities of the Riverside Centre, County Archives, hospitality businesses and more However if these proposals are intended to act as a catalyst for the wider housing and commercial masterplan for the harbour I’m confused… Read more »
