Haylands Primary School selects Lift Schools as preferred academy trust partner

Ryde’s Haylands Primary School is moving closer to academy status after governors identified Lift Schools as their preferred trust partner.

The school’s Governing Body and Leadership Team have informed staff and families that they are entering a formal period of engagement and due diligence with the multi-academy trust.

Governors stressed that they have not yet made a final decision about joining Lift Schools.

Local and national presence key factors
The governing body began exploring academy trust options in recent months following national developments in education and changes across the Isle of Wight’s educational landscape.

Governors set out clear criteria for any potential partner, requiring exceptional Key Stage 2 outcomes and a local presence on the Island.

They also emphasised that any partnership must enhance the school’s existing strengths whilst providing access to high-quality school improvement support and collaborative networks.

Lift Schools operates 58 schools nationally
Lift Schools runs 58 schools across the country through a regional model.

Haylands would join the trust’s South West region, working alongside ten other schools including five mainstream primary schools.

The trust’s nearest school to Haylands is Lift Ryde, one of the Island’s highest-performing secondary schools with a growing local reputation.

Strong results for disadvantaged pupils
Lift Schools’ primary schools achieved strong results in 2025, with 79% of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2.

The trust’s outcomes for disadvantaged pupils stand amongst the strongest nationally, with 71% achieving the expected standard.

Haylands governors and leaders visited four Lift primary schools during their assessment process and reported being impressed by each school’s strong identity, empowered headteachers, and visible school improvement.

Chair emphasises community commitment
Bob Bullivant, Chair of Governors at Haylands Primary School, said the governing body remains committed to ensuring the school continues serving the community for generations to come. He said,

“As governors, we want to secure a strong and ambitious future for the school, building on our many strengths whilst ensuring we have access to the highest-quality school improvement support.

“After careful consideration, we believe that Lift Schools is closely aligned with our values and ethos.”

He added that Lift Schools places great emphasis on each school’s identity and its role within the local community.

The school will now explore educational, financial and estates considerations with Lift Schools before making a final decision.
