Hazel Wyld: An Open Letter To David Pugh

VB reader Hazel Wyld has asked VB to publish an open letter to Isle of Wight council leader, David Pugh. This comes prior to tomorrow’s cabinet meeting, where it’s expected decisions about budget cuts will be made.

Islanders Views Sought on Town and Parish Council BoundariesIf it is true that you read VentnorBlog every night I would like to make one final appeal to you.

You have to make final decisions about cuts to services very soon now, your party promised that the most vulnerable people would not be targeted … where are we now? All under threat.

The respite care hostel, the Medina centre, care for the elderly, the infirm, the womens refuge, all under threat, all the most vulnereable.

One day you will by the Grace of God be old, you may have a child or grandchild with a learning disability, your daughter or sister may end up in a Womans refuge through no fault of her own, one of yours may need a social worker.

You do not know what the future holds for you, please when you make your decisions go for the top of the ladder, not the bottom, we do not need experts to tell us how to save our roads or any of the other things we waste money on.

We have people here who can do that for us, we do not need huge salaries for those at the top of the tree, no man should be earning more than the prime minister.

Now is your chance to rethink your budget before it is too late, listen to people like Geoff Lumley, he may not be of your party but this is the time to put aside party differences.

As a country we are all in the same boat, we need to cut our budgets, lets go for the luxuries not the bread and butter of life, now is your chance to prove yourself. Your own political future may well be made or lost by what you do now.

Show humanity to those less fortunate than yourself.

I wonder if you will listen!
