Several fire crews are tackling a large gorse fire at Headon Warren in the West Wight.
Crews from Newport, Cowes, Ventnor, Freshwater, Shanklin, East Cowes and Ryde scrambled to the scene just after 9am on Thursday (23rd July 2026).
The seven Island crews have now been joined by Mainland crews as the fire spreads to an area around 200m by 250m.
National Trust site includes SSSI
The National Trust manages most of the land at Headon Warren.
The site includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
