Headon Warren: New photos show extent of damage

As OnTheWight broke last Tuesday, there’s a very large crack running along much of the ridge of Headon Warren.

It’s causing much concern for residents, as they fear, if it were to fully break away, the amount of land lost would be considerable. It’s an area much-loved by locals.

Last week, local resident Steve Blamire went up to Headon Warren and sent us the photos below.

He tells OnTheWight that much of the cracking is under plants, so the full extent of the damage is unclear.

National Trust’s view
Tony Tutton of the National Trust told OnTheWight,

“We are aware of the land movement at Headon Warren. It is quite spectacular and our Rangers [meet] the ‘rights of way’ department there [Friday] about footpath diversions.

History being exposed
Referring to the last photo below, Tony gave an insight into what was being exposed.

“I believe the picture is of Hatherwood Battery at the western end of the Warren and you can see by the pieces of gun emplacement that have been lost to rotational slippage over the last few years.”
