It’s been a busy weekend for Island Roads due to high winds, heavy rainfall and other incidents.
There are currently three road closures in place – Long Lane, near Newport where a BT pole was knocked down in a traffic accident, and at Southford Lane, Whitwell and Morton Common, Brading, both due to flooding.
Flood warning signs – indicating the road is passable to most vehicles with care – were put in place at Warlands Lane, near Shalfleet; Carpenters Road, Brading; Alverstone Road, East Cowes, Briddlesford Road, Wootton; Fairlea Road, Newport, and Ryde Esplanade.
In addition, safety barriers have been put out on Ryde Esplanade following a road traffic incident and at Eastcliff Road, Shankin and Church Road, Binstead, following the collapse of private walls.
A low-hanging branch also had to be removed from the highway at Newport Road, Apse Heath.
An Island Roads spokesperson said,
“The conditions remain challenging so please take additional care wherever you are on the network.”
