Heights :The refurbished swimming pools and new, larger Tone Zone gym at The Heights Leisure Centre in Sandown will be opened to the public at the beginning of October.

The Heights is currently undergoing a major two-phase refurbishment with the second phase also beginning in October.

Second phase completed by February 2013
The second phase of the work, which includes the refurbishment of the health suite and the construction of new larger dry side changing rooms, are planned to be opened to the public on 11 February 2013.

Opening was planned for June
While it had been hoped to open the first of the new facilities in June, during building work it was found that the roofs above both swimming pools need complete rebuilds due to their condition.

Excavation works also showed that a gas main was not in the area provided by utility plans and required moving. It is because of these significant additional works that the pools and gym are now scheduled to open on 1 October.

Tone Zone gym still open
The current Tone Zone gym at The Heights remains open as does the health suite and activity studio which accommodates an extensive programmes of activities and classes. Swimming is available at Medina Leisure Centre where customers can use their One Card.

Once completed, the £2.67 million refurbishment of The Heights will include upgraded swimming pools, changing rooms, a new-look cafeteria, a second activity studio and a much larger Tone Zone gym with state-of-the-art equipment.
