Heritage Consultation On The Isle of Wight

WHAT DOES the word ‘heritage’ mean to the people of the Isle of Wight?

Where would you go to find heritage? Do you care about heritage or is it something that other people do? With the Island’s rich and varied history, the Isle of Wight Heritage Service is keen to find out your views.

Your heritage experience might range from walking along a beach collecting fossils to finding out about your family history. There may be heritage activities that you’d like to do that don’t currently exist on the Island or that you are yet to know about. This is what we need to need to find out and only you can tell us.

The Isle of Wight Heritage Service is undertaking an exciting study into how heritage organisations can better meet the needs of local residents, as well as how to appeal to visitors from the mainland and further afield.

Richard Smout, Isle of Wight Heritage Service Manager, said:”The heritage questionnaire is a great opportunity for Islanders to get their voices heard and improve the heritage offer here. By completing a questionnaire you’ll be having a direct input into creating a lasting heritage legacy for your community.”

To find out more and complete the survey online, visit www.iwight.com/heritagesurvey. The survey is also available at libraries throughout the Island and will take no more than ten minutes to complete. The deadline for completed questionnaires is 31st October 2007 and there is a prize draw for a £30 book token.

We look forward to hearing your views.
