High praise from Dolly Parton for IOW Film Festival feature

There is just a week to go until the start of the Isle of Wight Film Festival and we’re getting really excited about being able to indulge in three days of quality films on our doorstep.

Dolly Parton film grab:On The Wight are proud to be sponsoring the ‘Feature Film Section’ of the Festival, which is showing six feature length films over the three days at The Sacred Cinema in Ventnor.

The final film of the Festival, prior to the Awards Ceremony, is the British Première of The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom.

Coming of age film
This poignant, coming of age film tells the story of an average suburban 11-year old waiting for adolescence to arrive when she finds out her whole life has been a lie. With only her imagination to guide her, she runs away to find the truth.

Given the title you wouldn’t be mistaken for thinking that Dolly Parton features in the storyline. We’re not going to give the plot away (you need to come and see the film to find out more) but what we can share is a letter that Dolly sent to the creator of the film, Tara Johns.

Dolly Parton Film grab 2:She said, “I thought it was really, really great and was very, very proud of it. You did a wonderful job.” If that’s not a seal of approval, we don’t know what is.

And if you don’t believe us, here’s the letter below in all its glory

Make sure you book your tickets before they sell out, because there is limited capacity in the cinema, you can do that by popping over to the Isle of Wight Film Festival website.
