Isle of Wight band, CHAMPS, are due to release their second album on Monday (23rd February), so should be chuffed to read The Guardian have rated it a very respectable four out of five stars.
The Niton brothers, Mike and Dave Champion, have pulled the rabbit out of the hat with VAMALA, which is jam-packed with upbeat, pop-py gloriousness.
A ‘melodic triumph’
Produced by another Isle of Wight brotherly duo, Boe Weaver, the album has been described as a ‘melodic triumph’, breaking no musical boundaries and suggests Michael Chapman’s voice “has a frailty reminiscent of Robin Gibb”.

The band will be playing live at Rough Trade East (off Brick Lane) on the 2nd March at 7pm and then heading off on a European tour, performing in Brussels, Paris, Hamburg, Cologne, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Berlin, Munich, then back to the UK for gigs in Brighton, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham and finally, London.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what VAMALA means, the band reckon it’s a word used by Isle of Wight fishermen for a certain type of dangerous storm that comes in suddenly off the sea!
