Sandown Bay’s science, nature and carnival arts pile up, Hullabaloo, will be bringing brought together two days (15th-16th October) of fascinating talks, amazing speakers, poetry, storytelling and spoken word for all ages to help inspire, upskill, download and join in with – for free.
Hullabaloo Talk Tent
Hullabaloo’s Talk Tent will host a quick-fire programme of talks and film to expand our brains here in the Isle of Wight Biosphere – from hyperlocal to global, there’s modern wildlife conservation imperatives and success stories, positive community initiatives, new economic thinking and arts and culture updates.
Then there’s a special concrete cookery demo, insect illustrating and tales of new Brews, Pipits and Shrews!
The Talks have been curated by Joe Redstone for The Common Space.
Confirmed highlights so far include:
Biosphere Biodiversity – hear about the success of the Island’s Sea Eagles from Forestry England and learn from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust about the feasibility and benefits of a Beaver reintroduction. Project Seagrass and WWF are teaming up to explain how underwater gardening and Solent Seagrass meadows can help with global challenges.
Brewed in the Bay – learn how one of the newest community breweries Boojum&Snark and one of the oldest, Goddards, collaborated to craft a new range of beers inspired by life in Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight. Find out how these beers came about and how the artisan approach to brewing beer reflects the values of working and living in a Biosphere.
Two energising energy stories join the line-up – we’ll hear about the successful solar farm managed by Wight Community Energy and their plans for the future, and how Keert’s electric cargo bike delivery are wheeling in (sorry, couldn’t resist!) benefits for the Isle of Wight’s business network.
Sneak Previews! See excerpts from the Creative Biosphere film collaboration between students at the Bay Academy and Brading Roman Villa ahead of its official release!
Hear about the upcoming StoryQuest’s Trail in Two Tails. And for your lunchbreaks, catch up on our specially commissioned archive of films and animations.
