Hurrah For Whippingham!

Back in mid-July VB highlighted that Whippingham was a finalist in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Village of the Year Competition.

Whippingham postcardToday the results have been released.

Islanders will be pleased to learn that Whippingham won the Facilities and Environment category with the village’s heritage aspect being picked out in particular.

But that’s not all …
When inviting entries, Hampshire Association of Local Councils, who ran the competition, asked the councils to “Tell us what’s available in your place from community transport to places to meet. It all counts! How effective and joined-up is usage? How are you making things better?” in the Facilities and Environment category.

Not only did they win that category, but against competition from the whole of Hampshire, they also came fourth in the overall Village of the Year competition.

In return, Whippingham will be given two certificates to proudly display.

Bishop’s Sutton, close to Alresford in Hampshire, was named as the Village of the Year.
