Ikea: Pre-opening Tour (Podcast)It won’t have escaped you attention that Ikea is opening in Southampton on Thursday.

We popped over the water to go and have a chat to them and have a look behind the scenes before it opened.

Rob Cooper showed us around, explaining some of the thinking behind the Ikea shop and its philosophy.

We knew that Ikea was a serious player, but had no idea that they have their own saw mills or that the ‘room’ displayed that they have in their shops have imaginary families that guide the selection of what’s displayed.

We also touch on their in-house design studio, the arrangements for car parking and how long it’s taken to get the shop opened in Southampton.

This is the first part of the tour, with more coming soon.

Interesting to hear how long term their approach is. That sort of approach is needed for the company to last.

Good to get the background on the setup with the car park too.

I’m a big fan of Ikea and looking forward to the opening in Southampton, but won’t be able to make it over tomorrow. Do you know what the opening times are going to be at the weekend?
