“These results are a critical milestone for our rapidly improving school and our Year 11 students should be proud of their achievements.”

That was the verdict of Headteacher Peter Shaw on GCSE results day as Carisbrooke College students received their all important news.

Provisional figures indicate a 13% increase in A*-C English grades, with the total climbing to 53%. Maths A*-C grades also improved significantly to 64%- above the National Average. Overall, the number of students achieving 5A*-C grades, including English and Maths, rose by 8% to 44%.

Some exceptional performances
Mr Shaw went on to say,

“All of us are pleased at this improving picture and I am thrilled that the ambition and commitment we could clearly see in Year 11 has been shown in this way.

“There were some exceptional performances with Sumaiya Hameed achieving all of her passes at A*, A and Distinction. Leah Bruce and Danielle Buckett both achieved 9 A* and A grades, plus Distinctions. Louisa Burt, Antony Guillet, Priyanka Reddy and Daisy Woodley also performed superbly, recording a string of A*, A and B grades. A large number of our students will now be continuing their studies at our Sixth Form campus in Newport, which is great news for our Island Innovation Federation.

“There were also encouraging results and performances in certain subjects, including Art, Biology, Chemistry, Photography and PE and I would like to thank all of our teachers for their hard work and dedication. We have begun to go in the right direction and we now need to build upon this year on year. It is my job to make sure we do so.”
