Independent candidate Mark Jefferies is the new Isle of Wight councillor for Wroxall, Lowtherville and Bonchurch ward, following Thursday’s by-election.
The Ventnor town councillor was elected with 473 votes – 248 ahead of runner-up Reform UK’s Bill Nigh on 225.
Councillor Jefferies replaces Rodney Downer who represented the area as an independent councillor for 16 years, winning four elections.

32.42 per cent turnout
A total of 985 ballots were cast – a turnout of 32.42 per cent.
The full results are:
- David Groocock (Conservative): 153
- Mark Jefferies (Island Independent Network): 473
- Rachel Lambert (Liberal Democrat): 53
- Christopher Lloyd (Labour): 33
- Bill Nigh (Reform UK): 225
- Graham Perks (Vectis Party): 46
