Sunday 20th September saw the Isle of Wight Car Club hold an event at The Isle of Wight College in Newport for the sixth round of their MSA autotest championship.
With the weather gods shining down upon us once again, a terrific day of competition awaited.
The IW College offers the club one of the largest sealed courses and the planners decided to shake things up a little by switching the direction of the circuit and the location of the paddock area from what has become the norm in recent years.
As always at sealed surface events Dave Goodwin in his very well prepared Mini set the early pace posting a time of 1:03.58. Ever present Richard Weaver laid down a time of 1:03.47 to put the challenge to the rest of the drivers.
Tim Thomson duly stepped up to the challenge and recorded an amazing time in a Supercharged Mx5 to head the pack. As the track temperature rose and competitors became used to the new layout the times began to tumble.
Jai Nolan put in a time of 1:01.35 just after lunch in his Caterham and in doing so probably set the bar a little too high for the chasing pack. Once again Toby Allen in his Elise and Dan Morgan in a Supercharged Mx5 both kept Jai honest, but it was always going to be a victory for the Caterham.
Top lady for the event goes to Anna Weaver, the way she handles the rather large Supra around a tight course with such aplomb is remarkable. She currently leads the Ladies championship.
Driver of the day has to go to Jai Nolan for winning in style. However notably Matthew Price steered a Honda Civic into the top ten and should also receive his plaudits.
