Isle of Wight Council’s Registration Service is the most efficient in the south east region for registering births.
The news is revealed in an annual assessment of the service by the government’s General Register Office.
Under national good practice guidelines and statutory requirements, all new births should be registered within 42 days.
The Isle of Wight Registration Service registered over 99% of births within 42 days during the 2009/10 year, making it the best in the region.
Isle of Wight Council Leader David Pugh said “I am pleased that the IW Council has such an efficient service for registering births. I congratulate our staff for the first-class service they provide, which is undoubtedly welcomed by families at what is a special time for them”
