Island Savoyards are to stage Disney’s Beauty and the Beast 27th October – 30th October in what promises to be one of the biggest musicals to ever be performed on the Isle of Wight.
Not to be confused with a Pantomime this is the actual hit Disney Broadway and West production of Beauty and the Beast, using the actual script and orchestrations.
1998 ‘Best Musical’
Based on the 1991 Academy award winning Disney animation, it tells the story of a young Prince cruelly transformed into a Beast, the only way the spell can be released is if he learns to love another and earn their love in return by the time the last petal falls from the magic enchanted rose.
The music and lyrics are by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, with additional lyrics by Tim Rice, and it hit the West End Stage in 1997 at the Dominion theatre. It was nominated for three Olivier awards in 1998 winning the award for ‘Best Musical’.
Large scale production
The show is costing in the region of £18,000 which shows how committed the Savoyards are at making sure this Show is as large-scale as possible
The show comes as the Island Savoyards celebrates their 40th Anniversary after having staged some 70 or more shows mainly Gilbert and Sullivan and other operettas.
There will also be a 21 piece live orchestra to complement the wonderful music and well-known tunes.
