Congratulations to all of those on the Queen’s New Year Honor list, published today, which features an OBE and some MBEs for Isle of Wight residents.
Eileen Monks, Sandown resident and director of the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Young People.
The MBEs
Retired Head Teacher Mary Doyle of Totland Bay, who has served as the Chair of the Adoption Panel on the Island, has received an MBE for services to Children and Families. She is herself a foster carer and adoptive parent.
Celia Jordan of Newport has worked on the Isle of Wight Special Olympics and for her efforts has been honoured with an MBE for services to Disability Sport. There’s more on Celia’s story to come.
Vincent Wedlock-Ward, who works for the Southern Housing Group and was closely involved in the Chale Community Project, which provided green energy to the residents of Spanners Close. He’s been awarded and MBE for services to Disadvantaged Households and the Environment.
Related to the Island
Dr Anthony Acland of Southampton was a director of the AimHigher, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership, which ran for many years until it closed on 31st July 2011.
AimHigher worked to “widen participation in higher education by raising the aspirations and developing the abilities of young people from under-represented groups.”
Today’s list shows that Dr Acland will now get a MBE for services to Higher Education.
