Isle of Wight crowned Best UK Destination of the Year 2023

The Isle of Wight received the title of Best UK Destination of the Year at an awards ceremony on Wednesday night.

The Group Leisure and Travel Awards, celebrating its 27th year, is an event curated by the Group Leisure and Travel magazine, dedicated to the coordinators of group trips and holidays.

Triumphed over fierce competitors
America’s Got Talent winner, ventriloquist Paul Zerdin, hosted the ceremony. Guests from every facet of the group travel sector gathered to honor the winners at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Stadium MK, Milton Keynes.

The Isle of Wight triumphed over fierce competitors like London, Staffordshire, Wiltshire, and York, earning the title of Best UK Destination of the Year as voted by the individuals in charge of orchestrating successful holidays— the group travel organisers.

Summers: This award underscores the Island’s dedication to group travel
Amy Summers, the Sustainable Travel, Trade, and Exhibitions Manager, attended the awards ceremony and expressed her gratitude:

“Accepting the award at the Group Leisure and Travel awards ceremony on behalf of the Isle of Wight was an honour. I extend my thanks to everyone who cast their vote for us.

“In the last year, we have updated our group guide, introduced new itineraries, fostered relationships within the groups industry, and highlighted the Island as the prime location for group travel.

“This award underscores the Island’s dedication to group travel. I extend my congratulations to all Island businesses that offer exceptional service to groups, with a special shoutout to the exhibition partnership members who back the shared goal of promoting the Island.”

The Island also rejoiced as Warner Leisure Hotels, situated at Bembridge Coast and Norton Grange, won the Best Accommodation for Groups award. Similarly, HF Holidays, owning a property at Freshwater Bay, received the title of Best Group Tour Operator.

“Earning a nomination for this award was an immense achievement, but clinching the win through the votes of group travel organisers shines a light on the businesses and their personnel on the Isle of Wight, who consistently demonstrate that the Island is indeed the premier destination.

“A hearty congratulations to Warners Leisure Hotels and HF Holidays on their accolades, proving once again that the Island houses the cream of the crop!

“A big thank you to the businesses that render the Island a sought-after destination, to the group travel organisers who voted for the Isle of Wight, and to Group Leisure and Travel magazine for orchestrating these awards, which celebrate the pinnacle of group travel across the UK.”
