The first ever Isle of Wight Day has been hailed a success and the 2017 date set in the diary.
The event was the brainchild of the current High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight, Robin Courage. When he launched the event in April, Robin said,
“Isle of Wight Day provides us all with an opportunity to come together on one day to celebrate all that is great about this special place and to support local causes.”
Islanders entered into the true spirit of the occasion
Following the countless events that took place on Saturday, including a people’s parade through Newport, Robin said,
“I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response from the whole Island community to this first Isle of Wight Day.
“There has been a noticeable buzz all over the Island all weekend and many thousands of Islanders of every age group have really entered into the true spirit of the occasion.”
Wrap up your bunting until 2017
Robin went on to add,
“I am hugely grateful for the generous support from Island businesses, many of whom have joined together with all their staff to celebrate all that is great about this Island. It’s been brilliant how so many people have agreed with us that there is so much to celebrate about our wonderful Island.
“Thank you Islanders for waving the flags all weekend, you truly exceeded all expectations. Wrap up your bunting and bring it out again for 23rd September 2017.”
