Yoppul 2015 election poll

UKIP a nose ahead of Greens in latest Isle of Wight election poll

The poll run by Yoppul has Iain McKie (UKIP) a single vote ahead of Vix Lowthion (Green Party) in an Internet-only poll that ran from 20 April until yesterday.

The two poll leaders were well-ahead of the other four candidates, which saw a total of 249 people casting votes.

UKIP surge in last two days
Yoppul reports that 50 of the 86 votes that were cast supporting UKIP were focused on the last two days of the poll.

The Greens also has a mini surge, Yoppul report, on 30th April, with a third of their votes landing that day.

Some differences with last poll
Last week’s hustings exit poll had the Greens on top, with UKIP second. The main difference with this more recent poll is Andrew Turner, who was previously third, dropped to last place – perhaps not surprising in a poll that more young people were more likely to enter.

Rob da Bank: UKIP in, Bestival might be out
There’s been some speculation as to whether Rob da Bank’s ‘If UKIP win, Bestival might move off the Isle of Wight‘ comment last night might have a positive or negative impact on UKIP’s votes.

As has been commented on before, the number of people voting in these polls are 1) small when compared to the total number of people who can vote on the Island 2) are self-selecting 3) Only open to people who have Internet access.

Some Won’t vote, other Spoil
Two further options were offered beyond the candidates – Won’t vote & Will spoil paper – which gained eight and four votes respectively, only totalling 4% of the cast votes.

David Goodall (Lib-Dem) achieved the same number of votes in the poll as those who said they wouldn’t vote.

The numbers
Candidate – (Votes) – %age
Stewart Blackmore (Lab) – (34) – 13.65%
David Goodall (Lib-Dem) – (8) – 3.21%
Vix Lowthion (Green) – (85) – 34.14%
Iain McKie (UKIP) – (86) – 34.54%
Ian Stephens (Independent) – (14) – 5.62%
Andrew Turner (Conservative) – (12) – 4.82%
Won’t vote – (8) – 3.21%
Will spoil – (2) – 0.80%

In order
Iain McKie (UKIP) 86
Vix Lowthion (Green) 85
Stewart Blackmore (Lab) 34
Ian Stephens (Independent) 14
Andrew Turner (Conservative) 12
David Goodall (Lib-Dem) 8
Won’t vote 8
Will spoil 2

all very well, it looks as if the pressure is beginning to tell on Cllr Brown- but he still wants to hive off 5 libraries to “local control” (and therefore local cost). We want ALL ELEVEN libraries to be kept open and under Council control and at their costs. We DO NOT want libraries staffedd by volunteers, no matter how well intentioned they may be (I have… Read more »

Reading the small print, it becomes clear that the “devolved budgets” in Option C would, in the case of Niton, East Cowes, Bembridge, Shanklin and Brightstone, cover everything EXCEPT staffing costs. While this is an advance on previous positions it does nothing to safeguard the livelihoods of the loyal and professional staff at these smaller libraries. I hope that during the strike on Wednesday, a good part… Read more »

brighstone residents sent in the largest response to the consultation to save its library and librarian, so we are not as small as cll pugh thinks, but he had already made his mind up to get rid of it. thankyou cll bingham for standing up for us , voting against these cuts are our only hope , all councillors should remember today why they chose to be… Read more »

The principles of why libraries should remain have been well highlighted by everyone involved in wanting to rescue them. having said this it should apply to every single library in big and small places. Concessions are not solutions! If there are negotiations and compromises it will mean that the the thin end of the wedge has been driven in to comeback with the rest piecemeal later. These… Read more »

I vote for Option A, but according to the big wigs this is not an option. Obviously they know what’s best for us and we have don’t. What a ghastly bunch of politicians some people voted in. Please, lets hope the Conservatives are booted out next time. Pugh could disappear off to the London Borough of Newham where other utterly useless IOW Council staff go…
