The poll run by Yoppul has Iain McKie (UKIP) a single vote ahead of Vix Lowthion (Green Party) in an Internet-only poll that ran from 20 April until yesterday.
The two poll leaders were well-ahead of the other four candidates, which saw a total of 249 people casting votes.
UKIP surge in last two days
Yoppul reports that 50 of the 86 votes that were cast supporting UKIP were focused on the last two days of the poll.
The Greens also has a mini surge, Yoppul report, on 30th April, with a third of their votes landing that day.
Some differences with last poll
Last week’s hustings exit poll had the Greens on top, with UKIP second. The main difference with this more recent poll is Andrew Turner, who was previously third, dropped to last place – perhaps not surprising in a poll that more young people were more likely to enter.
Rob da Bank: UKIP in, Bestival might be out
There’s been some speculation as to whether Rob da Bank’s ‘If UKIP win, Bestival might move off the Isle of Wight‘ comment last night might have a positive or negative impact on UKIP’s votes.
As has been commented on before, the number of people voting in these polls are 1) small when compared to the total number of people who can vote on the Island 2) are self-selecting 3) Only open to people who have Internet access.
Some Won’t vote, other Spoil
Two further options were offered beyond the candidates – Won’t vote & Will spoil paper – which gained eight and four votes respectively, only totalling 4% of the cast votes.
David Goodall (Lib-Dem) achieved the same number of votes in the poll as those who said they wouldn’t vote.
