It was only earlier this week that we covered the update on VentBag and Ventnor’s aim to be plastic bag free by September 2009 (ooh that’s now!).
We read today in the US press, that the Isle of Wight County – who set themselves the same goals about a year and a half ago – have managed to strike another success with retailers in the Hampton Roads region of the county.
The Daily Press is reporting about how Smithfield Farm Fresh grocery stores have committed to using plastic bags only for produce and ice cream and will be looking at alternatives for other items.
The county hasn’t managed an outright ban of plastic bags, but have set up a ‘plastic bag advisory group’ to help educate and advise retailers and consumers.
Well done to Isle of Wight County for another successful step towards ridding the world of those pesky plastic bags.
