The LINk was delighted to hear the news that the Children’s Congenital Heart Services Unit at Southampton will be saved, giving Island children and their families access to one of the best centres in the country.
This, alongside news that work on the St Mary’s Hospital helipad will soon be underway, means Islanders will have the fastest access to the best treatments when they need it.
Review for Adult Congenital Heart Services
We are now aware that Adult Congenital Heart Services are the next to be reviewed.
The Isle of Wight LINk wants to ensure that Children who need these services as they grow up get the best possible treatment in a relevant location and that their transition to Adult services is a smooth one.
“As patients we spend our entire lives in close contact with the NHS and have a clear idea of how we would like services to be delivered. It is vital that people with congenital heart disease take this opportunity to help shape the future of their service.” says, Michael Cumper, Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients’ Association.
