April blossomed with Islanders achieving success in an array of fields.

As is usual every year, On The Wight brought you a range of April Fools pranks, some so good, readers thought they should be taken seriously, like the idea to paint The Needles to be the largest painted Union Flag in the world.

Oh yay, oh yay
Ryde hosted a competition a little louder than most, as 14 criers took part in the ultimate test of diction, clarity, volume, content and dress.

We saw the final stages of the a digital switchover as poor old behind-the-times analogue received a knockout punch.

The Island’s own a Emmy J Mac hit our screens when she was chosen for The Script front man Danny O’Donoghue’s team on talent show The Voice.

The Ventnor based Isle of Arts festival took place for the second year with a whole range on offer, from comedian Phil Jupitus to Graffiti workshops with Island spray can artist Tony Trowbridge.

Islander Gary Kurth ran, swam, and cycled his way into the European Triathlon championships for Britain.

A rather sandy and nostalgic competition took place as Islanders fought to be crowned Justin Brown scooped the prestigious awards for his quality cuisine and culinary prowess.

The RNLI had their hands and boats full this month, showing just they are so important as they made multiples rescues, including one in which a mother and her children were rescued from their grounded yacht.
