October, though not traditionally considered a month with many events compared to the action packed summer months, proved quite the opposite.
Quite a buzz surrounded Arreton’s annual Honey Show as the Isle of Wight Bee Keepers Association were on hand with a hive of information about the bees, as well as lots of honey on offer to try and buy.
Meanwhile, St Lawrence’s Pumpkin Festival was a huge hit as delicious pumpkin treats both savoury and sweet were plentiful, converting even the most ardent squash-hater.
National Police Air Service
Hampshire Constabulary joined forces with the new National Police Air Service, the new initiative meant police air support costs 20 per cent less through collaboration with police forces in England and Wales, and overall air support availability increased nationally by eight per cent.
The final curtains went down for Ryde Theatre as the council accepted an offer of £400,000 for the well-known building (sadly, the sale later fell through).
Ventnor took on a vintage feel as the Royal Revival returned to the Royal Hotel with radio revelry and gourmet food.
Baileys closed its doors for the last time, after an historic 141 years in Shanklin, leaving just the Sandown and Cowes Baileys to keep the legacy alive.
£20,000 reward in Damien Nettles case
Hampshire Police put up an offer of £20,000 for new information leading to the location of teenager Damien Nettles who has now been missing for 16 years.
Speedy Chris Holder, a former Wightlink Islanders team member had a lot to smile about when he won the 2012 World Speedway Champion title at the Grand Prix in Poland.
Those that fancied a good old yarn took up the bootcamp session held in Ventnor, headed up by Deadly Knitshade the Yarnstorm Bootcamp was full of wild wool, cunning crochet, and all things crafty.
Well deserved recognition
Several voluntary members of the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat were presented with The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals in recognition of the work they have done to save lives over the years.
