Isle of Wight paramedic struck off after admitting admitting child sexual charge

An Isle of Wight paramedic has been struck off by the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service after admitting child sexual charges.

The tribunal heard that 61-year-old Andrew Martindale, who worked for Isle of Wight NHS Trust, was arrested in May 2018 after having taken part in highly sexual discussions with a police officer, who he thought was an adult female with a 13-year-old daughter, about “acts that they or one of them would do to the 13-year-old girl”.

After he was arrested police found indecent photos of children on Martindale’s phone and laptop.

Pleaded guilty
Although four charges were brought against him, three were permitted to “lie on file” by the court after he offered to plead guilty to making indecent photographs of a child. He was given a two-year Community Order, 30 days of rehabilitation activity and a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

“Brought the profession into disrepute”
The Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service said Martindale had “brought the profession into disrepute and broke one of the fundamental tenets of the profession” and struck him off the register.
