Isle of Wight Radio Go Fully Local(*)

News just in from Isle of Wight Radio is that apart from Sunday’s Hit 40 UK show*, all other programming now originates from the Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight Radio Go Fully LocalApparently this hasn’t happened for at least ten years at IW Radio, but now the evening networks shows have been replaced with fresh local talent.

So who can we expect to hear in the evenings now from 7pm til midnight you ask?

Step forward Heather McCallum (pictured above), who listeners to Glynn Taylor’s Live and Local Show on Sunday nights will recognise – she’s also the front lady for Hugo Frusslinky and a cracking folk singer too.

Also joining the list will be Omar and Simon Clark to give listeners more local information, chat and great music through the evening and into the night.

Isle of Wight Radio Go Fully LocalBut these local presenters are not alone. IW Radio welcomes back the award-winning Stuart McGinley.

He returns after an 8-year break and they tell us that he’d previously attracted the biggest audience the station has ever seen!

Stuart said, “It’s great to be back at Isle of Wight Radio, it really feels like home. It’s great to work with such an experienced and professional team of broadcasters who really care about the Island.

“I have only been back a week and already I am amazed at the volume of calls we get daily from listeners. I’m having a ball,”

Paul Topping who is the Programme Controller as well as the Breakfast Show Presenter said, “It is a really exciting time for Isle of Wight Radio. We are making the station much more fun and local to listen to during the day, and the audience reaction has been immense. We are putting local broadcasters back on the station and have already extended our local programming by over 34 hours a week.”

“While other stations are cutting back using more national network programming we are committing to a more local sound. We are lucky enough to have such a great wealth of local talent on the Isle of Wight and I am going to ensure it does not go to waste.”

“Our new presenters are first class; all have experience in broadcasting, all are local and will add a new dimension to the station,” Paul said.
