Next year will see the 50th Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Awards…and the special event in March will have a new main sponsor.
WRS Systems have come on board as the platinum sponsor of the event at Medina Theatre, Newport, on 27th March, when sporting stars aged from eight to 80, will be rewarded for some amazing achievements.
A long history of supporting good causesa
Newport-based WRS, who provide industry-leading, secure Epos (Electronic point of sale) solutions to the hospitality, retail, sport, travel and education sectors across the UK, Europe and beyond, have a long history of supporting good causes on the Island.
The glittering awards night, organised by the Isle of Wight Sports Foundation, will be presented by Lord Grade of Yarmouth and former Island journalist, Lucy Morgan.
A special focus on Island Olympians
This year there will also be a special focus on Island Olympians over the decades.
More than 20 awards will be handed out – in categories ranging from junior boys and girls to adult sports people.
There will also be special awards for Service to Sport. Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Commitment, honouring Isle of Wight sport’s heroes behind the scenes.
The Isle of Wight Sports Foundation said it was delighted that WRS Systems had agreed to support the event.
Jackson: We can’t wait for the event
Sophie Jackson, WRS Chief Operations Officer, said,
“WRS is delighted to be supporting this year’s sports awards.
“We have some incredibly talented people on the Island who really deserved to be recognised for their achievements.
“We can’t wait for the event!”
Beasley: This is superb news for our event
Claire Beasley, chair of the foundation, said,
“This is superb news for our event and will pay for trophies, room hire and all the costs such an event incurs.
“In turn this will allow us to use our own funds for grants to Island sports clubs, allowing them to achieve more in the years to come.”
