New census data reveals that there’s been a 12 per cent rise in the number of young people choosing to live on the Isle of Wight in the last ten years.
Research carried out by conveyancing solicitors, Bird & Co, looked at the population percentages for each age group in each local authority in 2021 compared against the percentages in 2011.
The Island is listed as having the third highest percentage increase in the country of 20 to 39-year-olds choosing to move here.
A shift to the coast
The research reveals a shift in younger people moving out of cities and opting for country or coastal living, with areas such as Bristol and inner London being the least popular locations for young people.
The cost of living in those areas could well be a factor in the decision to move elsewhere.
The top ten list
The top ten places, and their percentage increases, were as follows:
- Cornwall, 16 per cent
- Rutland, 15 per cent
- Isle of Wight, 12 per cent
- West Berkshire, 11 per cent
- Outer London, 9 per cent
- Torbay, 6 per cent
- Worcestershire, 5 per cent
- South Gloucestershire, 4 per cent
- Essex, 4 per cent
- Leicestershire, 3 per cent
