Isle of Wight University for Free Time resumes face-to-face groups again

Alex from Isle of Wight University for Free Time (IWUFT) shares this latest news, in his own words. Ed

For many of us these last eighteen months have been very challenging, to say the least, if not scary and worrying.

We have all gone through a situation that none of us was expecting nor prepared for. This has been particularly concerning for many of our members who are a bit more advanced in age, have health conditions, are on their own and relied on the support that an organisation such as ours was offering them.

Sadly the situation was out of our control; we could only hope and pray that normal life would return as soon as possible.

Kept some of our groups running
At IWUFT we have been doing our part in providing what support we could and were allowed to in these circumstances; but that was only a very limited portion of what we would normally have done.

Online sessions
Wherever possible and appropriate we took advantage of modern technology to still keep some of groups running and keep the social element of our organisation functioning to some extent; but we know that this was not the same as meeting face to face.

30 Island-wide groups
Life is slowly getting back to normality, though we recognise the challenges still around us, and we are finally allowed to meet face to face again and most of our nearly 30 groups across the Island have re-started or are about to do so. This is an exciting time!

Our aim is to encourage people to keep developing themselves in a friendly atmosphere with like minded people.

Well-established Island-based organisation
IWUFT is 30 year old, a well-established Island-based organisation, fully registered charity, safely insured, with all our membership fees, which have been suspended for the moment, ploughed straight back in for the benefit of IWUFT members.

Your IWUFT committee is made up of unpaid volunteers who are passionate about this organization and who work really hard to keep costs to a minimum.
