Isle of Wight Wheelie Bin Changes: Questions and Answers

You could draw the conclusion from the huge flood of questions on the council Q&A from the people on the Isle of Wight, that there remains many unanswered questions about the transition of the Island to wheelie bin.

This might be down to poor comminications of the ideas by the council to date, although some of the £1.1 million pounds the process is costing has been stated as communications.

Team worked hard
In total 323 questions and answers were posed and congratulations must be paid to the council team behind answering the questions because the came in thick and fast.

The appetite of Island residents to find out more about the changes do not appear to have been quenched, as questions continue to be asked on that page today, even after the session was officially close day 3pm yesterday afternoon.

Find answers
Of course, many people aren’t on Facebook, so couldn’t ask questions that way, or possibly even see the discussion, so we’ve replicated for you (minus the postcodes – see below).

Any more questions?
If you’ve got any questions that aren’t covered in the Q&A, Feel free to leave them below and we’ll ask the council to answer them.

Data protection failure
The council, with good intentions it has to be assumed, asked people to “please provide your postcode and ideally a house number/name in your question,” so they could answer questions about wheelie bin delivery.

Unfortunately this directly led to Island residents exposing potentially valuable information about themselves – their specific actual home address – particularly as most people use their real name on Facebook.
