Isle of Wight’s Vectis Radio shortlisted again for prestigious ARIAS award

The shortlist for the 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) has been revealed with Vectis Radio being nominated for the second consecutive year in the Community Station of The Year category.

In 2023, Vectis Radio won Gold, marking the first time the award was given out by the Radio Academy.

Mac: Testament to the station’s consistency and growth
The Vectis Radio Directors spoke of their pride of being nominated once again.

Ian Mac, said,

“It is a real honour and a testament to the station’s consistency and growth, we have an amazing team. The ARIAS are the very top UK audio and radio awards presented annually to recognise, honour and reward outstanding shows and the teams behind them. Judged by over 200 senior audio and radio practitioners, drawn from all sectors of the industry, it is a huge accolade to be nominated.”

He continued,

“I am proud that Vectis Radio has this nomination, it is hugely significant that we are recognised nationally amidst a thriving community radio industry. I wish good luck to all the nominees in this and the other categories; see you in London in May.”

Currie: Such an honour
Kelvin Currie said,

“Last year’s award knocked me out, to be on a stage in front of so many famous
household names in the radio industry and accept an award for our relatively small station was a surreal experience.

“To be nominated again is such an honour.”

Thomson: It amplifies what community radio is all about
Kieren Thomson said,

“It’s wonderful to be nominated for a second year running at the ARIAS. For such a small team to make an impact that is recognised by our peers is not only a credit to everyone at Vectis Radio’s hard work, but also amplifies what community radio is all about.”

Cook: It takes a small army of volunteers
Trevor Cook said,

“It’s great news to have been nominated for Community Station of the Year at the 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Awards.

“It takes a small army of volunteers with various skill sets to keep Vectis Radio on air. It is excellent to have our station and our volunteers recognised at national level along side some of the biggest names in industry at these prestigious awards.”

The ARIAS are open to all UK-based content creators who are members of The Radio Academy. The awards evening is scheduled for Tuesday 7th May in London.
