When Sophie Neary wanted to find a good cover band to play at her 40th Birthday, one of the routes she took was to leave a message on the VentnorBlog Forum.
She picked up a some suggestions there (and others by email because of it), but an idea was planted in her head – that of starting a Website that made it really easy for others to connect to Island bands.
A mere day and a half later from her announcing the idea, and true to her word, Sophie had setup IsleOfWightBands.com, a website that lists not only Island bands, but DJs, entertainers and venues.
Hard to gather
VB chatted to her today about it, wondering how hard it was to find the information. She told us, “It was very hard to gather, including phoning lots of pubs. One of the most useful sources was someone in the VB Forum, (Kevin) who looks after the bands at The Tap in Sandown.”
Sophie’s Isle of Wight Bands site will be joining other sites like Folk ‘n’ Stuff that’s been providing information about Island folk bands for years.
Building fast
IsleOfWightBands.com has already had over 700 visitors, so it’s off to a great start.
Sophie knows a thing or two about the online world, one of her previous Websites, ‘Beat that quote’, that was so successful, it was named as the fastest growing Web site in 2007 – so look out Isle of Wight.
It’s a totally free site (she’s running it as a hobby), just get in touch with her.
