Jazz Festival Refused Use Of Sailsbury Gardens By IW Council

The Isle of Wight Council has decided to refuse the request of the organisers of the Isle of Wight Jazz Festival permission to use Sailsbury Gardens in Ventnor next year.

In correspondance that has been seen by VentnorBlog, Steve Beynon, the council’s Chief Executive, explains that the IW Council had consulted widely to make “an informed decision.”

He goes on to say that following discussion with the council’s leader, David Pugh, they feel that “it is not in the best interest of the community” to agree to the request.

Doesn’t the island have the excellent Mountbatten providing end of life care? Surely any spare hospital beds should be used for other things?

Yes Kerry, Mountbatten has a wonderful facility that provides end of life care. The staff are fantastic and the patients that are fortunate to be able to access this high quality care are very lucky, (as are their families who are shown love and care too.) However we are a population of older people on the Island, I believe there are more older people per 100 here… Read more »

Talking of best possible end of life care, the first public screening of IOW film makers David and Jill George’s “Love and Dying” documentary is at Ventnor Arts Club tomorrow evening.
