As we reported earlier in the week Jim Blake’s handcrafted rowing boats left Ventnor on Tuesday to go up for auction.
The auction (organised by Shanklin Auction Rooms) takes pace today from 10.30am in the fields next to Arreton Barns (thanks Sue).
On display yesterday afternoon were six rowing boats, fondly named Peggy, Candy, Katy-Jo, Julia Mary, Greta, and of course the larger No-Name, as well as four wonderful canoes.
As we mentioned before, all boats have been hand-crafted by Jim Blake, Ventnor’s Long Shoreman.
We popped along to take a look at the wonderful examples of craftmanship and saw lots of interest from others browsing the auction.
There were some great anecdotes of nostalgia from local fishermen and others who remembered using the boats in their youth.
The auction starts at 10.30am this morning so you still have time to pop along and make your bids.
