Jonathan Fitzgerald-Bond Says “Don’t Be Misled,” But Misleads OFT On Ferries

JFB Says The second election leaflet of Jonathan Fitzgerald-Bond dropped through letterboxes earlier this week.

Under a column headed “DON’T BE MISLED,” at the bottom of the page, in bold, it states “Local Conservatives stand for honesty and openness.”

Incorrect information
Recently it was discovered that information put forward to the OFT about Ferry prices by the IW Council’s Policy Commission for business and infrastructure – which is headed by Cllr Fitzgerald-Bond – misrepresented the true feelings of small Island businesses.

Not only was the information 180 degrees wrong, but when the IW Council became aware of this, it took Cllr Fitzgerald-Bond several days to report this misrepresentation to the OFT.

The mis-quoted information came from a survey carried out by the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce.

The true information was that 81% of small companies thought the cost of cross-Solent travel had an adverse effect on business.

What the OFT received from Cllr Fitzgerald-Bond’s Commission was the reverse – that 81% thought the cost of cross-Solent travel did NOT have an adverse effect on their business.
